Here’s what you need to know about Wolt’s insurance:
Staying safe when delivering with Wolt is important, but if an accident does happen, we have done our best to have your back. When you deliver as a Courier Partner with Wolt, you are covered by Wolt’s accident- and third-party liability insurance and this coverage is paid for by Wolt. You are automatically insured by Wolt as soon as you go online for the first time, and every time you go online from there on.
Wolt has made an agreement with Onsi (formerly known as Collective Benefits) to manage your insurance program. This means that the Onsi platforms holds all the information about your insurance. You can submit a claim and you can talk to their support about insurance questions, if you need help.
So what are the insurances you are covered by? As a Wolt Courier Partner, you have personal accident and third party liability. Below, we’ll go more in-depth about each of them.
Accident Insurance
It’s pretty much as straightforward as it sounds! If you are involved in an accident while online and get injured, you can file a claim. Some of the injuries covered are fractures, dislocations, and dental injuries, but also more serious accidents that cause disablement or death. In addition, certain medical expenses are covered. A new addition to the coverage this year is that you could be compensated, if you are a victim of assault while out delivering.
Third-Party Liability
Third-Party Liability is when you injure someone or damage their property while you are on bicycle or on foot. This does not apply, if you are delivering with a motorized vehicle. To explain why it’s called ”third”; you are the first party, with the insurance you have through Wolt, and the other person involved is the third party. This insurance is important for example when you break a customer’s door, scratch a person’s car, or collide with another bicyclist while delivering with Wolt.
Here’s what to remember if you get in an accident
If you are unfortunate enough to end up in an accident, there are a few things that can help solve the situation much easier for all parties involved.
- At the scene, avoid saying ”It’s my fault.” Leave that for the insurance to determine!
- Safety first! If there is anyone injured, please contact emergency services (Call 112 in Denmark).
- Get the name, phone number, and license plate, if applicable.
- If you have not received their information, it’s important to file a claim with the police so that the person can be identified.
- Share your personal information with the other person.
- Make sure to take pictures and document what has happened, especially pictures of whatever has been damaged.
- If they would like your insurance information, you can see the bottom paragraph, ”A good tip”, in this post for how to give them that.
- Reach out to Wolt Support and inform that you have been in an accident, and they can both resolve the task that you are doing and provide you with this information again.
Do you know how to file a claim?
Have you considered your own additional insurances?
We are proud to offer a ‘peace of mind’ for our Courier Partners when performing deliveries, but also strongly recommend that you research your own insurance needs. You could also consider other insurances that can cover other incidents when operating as a Courier Partner such as theft insurance, extended accident insurance, or insurance for lost earnings. There is a wide variety of possibilities here, and it’s up to you to find what fits you best.
What about motor insurance?
In Denmark, it’s mandatory to have motor vehicle liability insurance. This means that you’ll need to get in touch with your own insurance if something happens while using, or to your motorized vehicle.
A good tip
If you happen to get in an accident with someone on the street and you are not delivering with a motor vehicle, please share the link below with them, as it will allow them to file a claim directly to Onsi. Through this link, they can get help from Wolt’s insurance, which you may be covered by. This means you’ll always be able to provide someone with the tools to handle an insurance situation. If you lose the link, Wolt Support can give it to you again.
After you or the third party has submitted the claim and still have questions, either of you can email tpl.claims@wolt.com.
